MBA Open Lecture with Sašo Belovski

Wednesday, September 14th at 18:00, our alumni Mr. Sašo Belovski, Ph.D. spoke on the topic: Business development in the sport/running industry. Mr. Sašo Belovski excelled in both academia and his professional career. He studied the FIFA Master - International Master in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport in the U.K., Switzerland and beyond; and successfully finished his PhD in Sports Management at Charles University in Prague. Currently, Mr. Belovski is the Member of the Board at Prague International Marathon, and he serves as both the Business Development Director and Partners Relations Manager. He has been a keynote speaker at many international academic and business conferences.

During his lecture, Mr. Belovski discussed business development in the sport/running industry which is together with technology the fastest growing industry. The RunCzech Running League delivers some of the best running events in the world, which makes the Czech Republic an exporter of know-how in terms of event management and sports marketing. The Prague International Marathon enjoys the trust of global brands such as Volkswagen, Adidas, and Hilton for the last 20 years.

Mr. Belovski explained why a country with less population than cities of London or New York manages to compete globally in the best-running events in the world or why do sponsors join and stay loyal, even during a global economic crisis. The RunCzech Running League not only arranges full marathons, but also a number of non-competitive short-distance runs. The intention is to promote a healthy and active lifestyle among people of all ages, interests and occupations. Therefore, it became very trendy and popular. Carlo Capalbo, the founder of the Prague International Marathon and the president of the organizing committee of the RunCzech Running League, explains the popularity: “Marathon running continues to grow in popularity. More and more people are taking up the sport. Running is convenient and affordable. It’s easy to approach, and can be done anywhere at any time. There are health and fitness benefits; it’s a lifestyle. And, it’s all about self-esteem and self-confidence.”

During following Q+A part, Mr. Belovski answered many questions from the audience, and discussed daily examples and decision-making challenges.
