How will Industry 4.0 shape our future?

On Tuesday, October 3rd at 18:00, Anglo-American University’s School of Business Administration was excited to host our in house lecturer of Operations and Technology Management, Mr. Milan Slapak, PhD to address the topic “How will Industry 4.0 shape our future?”. With 20 years of business experience in strategic management, Professor Milan Slapak is currently the ATP Country Director at GE, building a new GE Turboprop business in the Czech Republic.

Industrialization 4.0 is not just evolving industry, but also the service industry and all supply chains by creating a common digital thread through the whole value chain to eliminate any human error which opens new gateways to enhance efficiency more than ever before. Such opportunities are the ability to collect data while operating for live time analytics and calculating products lifelines to reduce risk and increase efficiency.

He raised the concept of the “Brilliant Factory” which should be a reality in 2025 through further developments of digital maturity, lean manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, and additive manufacturing. 3D printing, which is a type of additive manufacturing, will reshape globalization and international relations as developed countries will be capable of having their manufacturing locally, rather than in developing countries.

At the end of the presentation, he address the social implications and myths that Industry 4.0 will have across society, such as if it will reduce jobs on the market with robotization. No it will not reduce jobs on the market, he said, it will just shift the types of jobs out there, and if he could tell his children what to study he said, he certainly would recommend study technology.
