GAINING VALUE FROM BUSINESS ANALYTICS, MACHINE LEARNING AND AI
On Thursday, January 18th, Chapman MBA lecturer and Associate Professor from the Argyros School of Business and Economics Ken Murphy, PhD. Presented on the topic “Gaining value from business analytics, machine learning and AI”.
Several potential applicants to the Chapman University MBA program in Prague were in attendance at the Open lecture, so Dr. Murphy first presented a brief introduction of our MBA program, and he discussed how his MBA elective course Business analytics is important for the future in any field.
Business analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) are buzzwords attracting attention every day in the media. Automated decision-making, supported by data and models, is already causing market disruption and changing jobs in many industries. Dr. Murphy discussed the impact of these changes on business in the near and longer term future. He additionaly highlighted how these changes would affect management and jobs, and how managers could take advantage of this new technology-enabled regime. The interactive discussion with a huge audience explored where things stand and how we can take advantage of the opportunities these developments present.
About the lecturer: Dr. Kenneth E. Murphy has over 20 years of experience working in academia as a faculty member and as an administrator. In his role as Associate Provost at Chapman University, he is responsible for the academic operations of the university as a whole. As a faculty member in the Argyros School of Business, Dr. Murphy teaches and studies in the area of business analytics, statistics and management. He provides his students challenging and innovative curriculum in the area of quantitative methods with the goal of preparing empowered management decision makers for tomorrow.
